WHO IS VFFCU?

As a Credit Union, VFFCU is a cooperative financial institution. This means its members are its owners; firefighters just like you. Our members share a common bond by virtue of our profession and have united to create a trusted and reliable source of low cost credit and safe, secure deposits with exceptional levels of service.

Generally, our older members are our biggest depositors. Their deposits are loaned to our younger members. Because we are lending to and borrowing from our fellow firefighters our loan losses are the lowest in the industry.

Credit Unions are inherently democratic. Voting is based on “one member, one vote”, not by the amount of shares or deposits held per member. Our Board of Directors is elected from the membership at our Annual General Meeting. All adult members in good standing are eligible to vote in elections and run as directors.

OUR STAFF

VFFCU is managed and staffed by full time, professional firefighters just like you. We know our clients because they are our co-workers and our peers. We believe that our service levels are second to none as we truly understand firefighters, their culture, lifestyle and financial needs.

HOW YOU CAN BECOME A MEMBER?

To become a member, you must open an account with a minimum deposit of $25.00 to your Equity Shares. This gives you voting rights and an ownership share in the credit union. All accounts for new members must be completed in branch as, in order to meet Federal FINTRAC Regulations we must have a face to face meeting with the member and obtain copies of their picture identification.

You will then have access to our many other financial services including: our signature line of credit, mortgages, TFSA‘s, RRSP’s, term deposits, vehicle loans and our own branded VFFCU MasterCard.

LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP/INSURED DEPOSITS

Once you have joined Vancouver Firefighters’ Credit Union you are a member for life. Your VFFCU membership is a benefit that will serve you well into retirement. Each members’ deposits are insured by the Credit Union Deposit Corporation (CUDIC) which offers unlimited protection of deposits in B.C. Credit unions. For more information on CUDIC click the link: https://www.bcfsa.ca/public-resources/credit-union-deposit-insurance/about-cudic

PATRONAGE REBATES AND BONUS INTEREST

Our credit union has historically shared our profits with our membership in the form of patronage rebates on interest paid by members on loans, and bonus interest paid to members on term deposits. The amount of these returns are set by the Board of Directors at our Annual General Meeting each May. Call or ask the office for more details.

We look forward to serving you and your family and helping you with all of your financial needs. Come and see us today during office hours from 8 am to 1 pm at #3 Firehall at #2-2801 Quebec Street, Vancouver, or call us at 604-874-4911 or toll free at 1-855-874-4911.
